It’s Not Work — It’s Your Ego That Drains You

We all work a lot in life. But if you really look closely, something interesting shows up.

Are we actually just working…

or are we quietly adding “I” and “mine” to everything we do?

And over time, that “I” becomes heavy.

Have you ever asked yourself—

is the tiredness really from the work, or from the constant thinking:

“I did this… what will I get… what if it doesn’t work out?”

Maybe that’s where the real problem begins.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna shares a very simple but deep idea:

“Offer all your actions, let go of expectations and the sense of ‘mine,’ and do your duty without inner stress.”

(Chapter 3, Verse 30)

Now pause and think about what this really means.

It’s not saying “stop working.”

It’s saying—stop carrying unnecessary weight while working.

In simple words, whatever you’re doing… stop holding it as “mine.”

Now imagine this for a second.

If the work is no longer “yours,” then what exactly are you so worried about?

The fear of failure becomes lighter.

Even success doesn’t inflate your ego as much.

There’s a small but powerful point here that we often miss—

The problem is not the work.

The problem is the ownership we attach to it.

The moment we say, “I am doing this,”

expectation quietly enters.

And where there is expectation, there is pressure.

And where there is pressure, there is stress.

Now you might wonder—

does this mean we shouldn’t want anything at all?

Should we just work without thinking?

Not really.

It doesn’t mean you stop having goals.

It means you stop tying your peace to those goals.

There’s a difference.

It’s not about removing ambition.

It’s about removing the constant need for personal gain from every action.

And then comes another idea—reducing the feeling of “mine.”

Ask yourself honestly—

are you just doing the work,

or are you also trying to prove something through it?

Because many times, we’re not just working.

We’re trying to protect our image, our identity, our importance.

And that’s where the pressure begins.

Now imagine doing the same work, but with a different mindset.

Not as something that defines you…

but as something you are responsible for.

Not “my success” or “my failure,”

but simply something you are giving your best to.

Wouldn’t that feel lighter?

And yes—it actually makes a big difference.

When you work with this sense of offering, something shifts inside.

You still give your best.

You still work hard.

But you don’t carry the weight of every result.

That’s what it means to work without inner tension.

Now look at your own life.

Say you’re running a business.

If every decision comes with the thought, “What if this fails?”

you’ll work with fear.

But if you think, “I’ll do my best, and I’ll handle whatever comes,”

you work with clarity.

And honestly—

which one leads to better decisions?

Fear… or clarity?

Same with content creation.

You put in effort, but results don’t always show up quickly.

If your mind keeps asking, “Why am I not getting recognition?”

you’ll burn out.

But if you focus on showing up, creating, and doing your part,

you’ll stay consistent.

And that consistency changes everything.

Now ask yourself one simple question—

Am I just working… or am I carrying my ego along with my work?

If it’s the second one,

that might be the real reason behind your stress.

Slowly, when you start seeing yourself as just a part of the process—not the center of everything—something settles inside.

The work stays the same.

The effort stays the same.

But the weight disappears.

And maybe that’s the real message here—

Do your work.

Give your best.

But don’t attach your identity to it.

Offer it… and let it go.

Because the moment the “I” becomes lighter,

peace quietly begins to grow within.

And honestly, that’s what real strength feels like.
