When Everything is His, Why Do We Worry?
In the previous verse, Lord Krishna explained the difference between the 'para' (spiritual) and 'apara' (material) nature. He showed us how a conscious energy and an inert energy combine to run this entire universe. But today’s verse, the sixth one, answers one of the deepest questions of our existence. In our busy lives—amidst office deadlines, relationship struggles, or the noise of social media—we often forget the source of everything that surrounds us. We see ourselves as isolated, our problems as mountains, and this sense of 'separation' is the root cause of all our anxiety.
Many people think that God is sitting somewhere in the distant heavens, watching us from afar. This is a massive misconception that keeps us away from true spirituality. We think our home, our body, and our work are separate units. However, Krishna is revealing a truth here that will completely shift your perspective. If you truly grasp this verse, the way you see the world will change forever.
Imagine sitting in your office. There is stress, your boss is demanding, and you feel the pressure of the workload. You feel as if all this is happening 'outside' of you and has nothing to do with anything sacred. But Krishna says that this 'external' world is nothing but an expansion of His own energy. If you work with this awareness, wouldn't your stress naturally decrease? Wouldn't your work transform into a form of worship?
For the youth, this understanding is even more crucial because identity crisis is a major challenge in today's era. We exhaust our energy trying to prove ourselves again and again. We forget that the energy we use to work is coming from the same source that sustains the entire universe. This verse brings us back to our center.
When we sit for meditation, the mind wanders. We often think that meditation means stopping thoughts entirely. But true meditation is the ability to see the Divine in every thought and every breath. This verse is the science of developing that vision.
This is not just a verse; it is the art of living. When you understand that everything originated from Him, the space for hatred, jealousy, and insecurity disappears. You no longer just 'work'; you become an instrument of that infinite reality. Let us dive deep into this verse and see what signals Krishna is giving us through His nature.
एतद्योनीनि भूतानि सर्वाणीत्युपधारय ।
अहं कृत्स्नस्य जगतः प्रभवः प्रलयस्तथा ॥ ७.६ ॥
Simple Meaning and Deep Insights
In this verse, Krishna clearly states: etadyonīni bhūtāni sarvāṇītyupadhāraya—know that all living beings are born from these two natures (the inert and the conscious). ahaṃ kṛtsnasya jagataḥ prabhavaḥ pralayastathā—I am the source of the entire world's creation, and I am also its dissolution.
Krishna means that just as gold is the primary essence in all gold ornaments, the Divine is the essence behind all names and forms in this world. Creation means the manifestation, and dissolution means returning to the original source.
Line-by-line breakdown:
1. etadyonīni - Having these two natures as their womb.
2. bhūtāni sarvāṇi - All living beings.
3. iti upadhāraya - Understand this thoroughly (with seriousness).
4. ahaṃ kṛtsnasya jagataḥ - I am the source of this entire world.
5. prabhavaḥ pralayastathā - The place of origin and the place of dissolution as well.
This teaches us that whatever we call 'mine' or 'theirs' is actually a manifestation of that same infinite reality. Once this settles in your heart, the feeling of animosity fades because you realize everything comes from the same seed.
Perspectives from the Masters
Swami Ramsukhdas Ji: Swami ji emphasizes the word 'upadhāraya'. He says this is not just an intellectual understanding; it is a 'dharana'—holding it in your life at every moment. He states that there is nothing in the world apart from the Divine. Just as waves rising from the ocean appear separate but are essentially water, we are all extensions of God. His sadhana centers on seeing that reality everywhere.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: Prabhupada considers the word 'kṛtsnasya' vital. He explains that Krishna is the master and source of the 'entire' universe. According to him, this verse is the foundation of Krishna Consciousness. When we know everything comes from Krishna, we stop using our senses for selfish ends and start using them in His service.
Swami Mukundananda Ji: Swami Mukundananda explains this with an engineering analogy. If the architect of a building is also the one who demolishes it, the building's existence depends entirely on him. Similarly, this universe is dependent on Krishna. He advises modern youth that whenever you are stuck in a complex problem, remember that even the 'creator' of the problem is under His control.
Real-Life Application
Imagine you are working on a tough project in the office. A colleague says something rude, and you are furious. Pause now. Remember this verse: that colleague, the project, and you—all emerged from the same Divine. Would you stay angry at the Divine? The thought itself will cool your temper.
When your mind wanders during meditation, don't scold it. As you bring it back, say, 'O mind, the Divine you are searching for elsewhere is your very source. Return to Him.' This technique makes meditation very natural.
Q&A with the Reader
Q: Did all evil also come from Krishna?
A: Swami Ramsukhdas ji explains that the Divine is pure light. Evil is born from the misuse of that light or from the 'ego' that we have chosen for ourselves.
Q: Should I leave the world then?
A: Prabhupada says—No, don't leave the world; live in it by recognizing it as Krishna's property. This is true renunciation.
